In the Spring of 2019 we had 25 students from 1st through 12th grades involved in a unique project that involved the state forest service, community and Trees. The project was thought of by 2 kids ( at the time 2 nd(Jayda) and 5th (Sydney) graders to plant trees for the community at parks and at the school for shade. In May we got approximately 200 shrub and tree saplings and put together a nursery and planted all the sapling into pots and gave them their best environment as possible behind the High School to grow. This has helped ensure the saplings to become larger and have a better chance to “make it” in their new home. We lost only 3 plants thats a 98% success rate. In the spring of 2020 we will evaluate their success and then use the forest service suggestions to determine if they should stay in the nursery or be planted to their new homes. We would like to grow and continue the project, but we will need support from individuals and the community to do so and are currently looking for “SPONSORS” for the tree program to continue.
